- Accordingly SM Zafar opened his eyes in a religious environment. He joined a school called “Madrassa Randherya High School, Yangoon (Randherya represents the group of Muslim Soorties who had migrated from Soorat city of India).
- Zafar was in his fifth class when the family had to leave Yangoon due to Japanese invasion in1941. Family came to reside in Chak Qazian, a village in Tehsil Shakargarh, distt: Gurdaspur (India).
- After matriculation, standing first in the Board and receiving scholarship, joined Government College Lahore in 1945. Elected as Secretary General of student union.
- Thereafter joined Law College, University of the Punjab 1949-51. Elected as Secretary General of student union.
